The masterwork of Joseph Elliot, an 18th-century mechanician. this case
clock is
a new gift to the National Museum of American History. In addition to the front
face, embellished with a lunar and tidal dial, the clock features a left
face, showing
movements of the Solar System; a glass back,
revealing inner works; and a right face,containing machinery for moving decorative figures and playing tunes on the
hour.
