Brief summary:
-be happy to provide my thoughts on the 746 Pro. I think
for the money its a great rig. The HF portion closely approaches the 756 PROll in features and performance. Its very easy to operate and to use the DSP etc without having to constantly refer to the manual. I particularly like the ability to change the bandwidth without the need to buy additional filters. You can also choose between a sharp and soft setting for each of three preset band widths. The 746PRO also allows you to set not only your transmit levels --treble and bass--but also gives the same choice on recieve--something that even the 756 PRO ll doesnt. The noise blanker is now adjustable and seems improved. The noise reduction is excellent and adjustable. The display is very good and and easy to read. I've not done much on 6 meters as yet but 2 seems to work well--and this using a GapTitan which is not a true 2 meter ant. Of course the 100 watts out helps. Very easy to use on 2 as well since the offset is automatic. Just press a button and your ready to go. The only other radio i've had with 6 & 2 capability is the Kenwood 2000. Its a good rig but I found it more complicated--not as user friendly. It also had features I wasnt going to use. The multitude of very small buttons made it harder to operate for me. Also didnt like the noise reduction and notch as well. But it is a good radio for the money. Finally the audio reports I get on the 746 PRO using a Heil Goldline have been excellent. Most say they cant tell the difference between it and my PROll Hope this is of some help as you can tell I really like the 746 PRO. And you cant go wrong buying from The Ham Station. I've dealt with them for many years and Dan always stands behind the sale and treats you right. 73--de John WB0SQZ
